Successful moose or sheep applicants must wait five years before applying for or obtaining another moose or sheep licence or applying for preference points for these species. The mountain goat is considered a unique license. If you have obtained a mountain goat licence since 1995, you cannot apply for a Type 1 or Type 2 goat licence again, but you can apply for a Type A goat licence in units 4 and 5. If you harvest a mountain goat in units 4 or 5, it doesn`t count as your unique goat for Wyoming. If you raised a bison licence and harvested a bull, you cannot apply for a bull bison licence again, but you can apply for a female or calbbison licence the following season. Anyone who obtains a bison licence and harvests a female or calf cannot apply for a female or calf licence for five years, but can apply for a bison licence the following season. Anyone who obtains a female licence or a farrowing of wild bison and harvests a female or calf cannot apply for a bison licence or a female or calf licence for five years. Bows must have at least 40 pounds of pulling weight for hunting bighorn sheep and mountain goats. For moose, moose and bison, hunters must be equipped with bows with a draw weight of at least 50 pounds. Crossbows are legal during archery season. A crossbow must have a pulling weight of at least 90 pounds and a bolt at least 16 inches long. Wide heads should be at least 7/8 inches tall when fully unpacked.
Fully automatic firearms are prohibited, while silencers may be used. When hunting deer or antelope, bows should have no less than a pull weight of 40 pounds. Crossbows are legal during archery season. A crossbow must have a pulling weight of at least 90 pounds and a bolt at least 16 inches long. Wide heads for a bow or crossbow must have a fixed or extendable head that cannot pass through a 7/8″ ring when fully extended. A muzzle-loading rifle must be at least .40 calibre or higher and fire an expansive-tipped bullet containing at least 50 grains of gunpowder or equivalent. Dosing tubes are legal for crossbows and mouth magazines. If you apply as a group, candidates` preference points are rounded to the fourth decimal place and they enter the draw with exactly that number. For example, a group of three candidates for moose with the following points, 5, 6 and 2, would enter the draw with 4.3333 points (5 + 6 + 2 = 13 / 3 = 4.3333).
A group/party is treated as a single application, and if selected, all members of the group receive a license. Wyoming has a “Hunt Planner” section on its website. If you hunt deer or antelope, you may receive a postcard for a survey of Wyoming`s crops. You can register at wgfd.wyo.gov/Hunting/Harvest-Surveys or call 800-216-0477 to complete the survey. In Wyoming, the moose licence is 84% resident and 16% non-resident, the moose and bison licence is 80% resident and 20% non-resident, and the division licence for bighorn sheep and mountain goats is 75% resident and 25% non-resident. The first choice of all applicants will be considered before the second choice for all species.
Wyoming will offer all remaining licenses in a second draw. There is no entry fee for the remaining draw. All successful applications will be fully refunded. Preference points do not apply and will not be used if you draw a remaining license. Residents and non-residents may apply together in the same pool of up to six applicants. The results of the remaining draw will be published on July 7, 2022. Wyoming has a commission tag program for moose tags. The Commission`s moose stamps are donated to charities for auction.
Licences are valid for fixed units and seasonal dates. Wyoming also auctions a total of 25 governor`s licenses, which cannot exceed 5 sheep licenses, 5 moose licenses, and 5 wild bison licenses. However, points will not be removed for successful second-preference apps. In Wyoming, about 20% of the total number of stamps on deer and antelopes go to non-residents. The results of the draw will be available on June 16. There is no waiting time for hunters who have managed to draw a deer or antelope tag. The results of the draw are tentatively scheduled for May 19 for non-resident moose and May 5 for bighorn sheep, moose, goats and bison. Wyoming only accepts online applications. You can apply to wgfapps.wyo.gov/elsapplication/ ELSWelcome.aspx. The deadline to apply for moose in Wyoming is January 3-31; for moose, sheep and mountain goats is from January 3 to 28. February; and for bison is from March 1 to 31. Applications for resident moose must be submitted by May 31. All application deadlines expire at midnight Mountain Time, the deadline or the next normal business day if the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday. The deadline to modify or withdraw your online application in 2022 is May 9 for moose and April 15 for sheep, mountain goats, moose and bison.
