The ABA`s military pro bono project accepts case recommendations from military lawyers on behalf of recruited and serving junior military personnel facing civil law issues and strives to refer these cases to pro bono lawyers. There are organizations in West Virginia that offer free civil legal assistance if you qualify for their services. To request services, you must contact each organization. ABA Home Front provides legal information, resources and a directory of legal programs for veterans, military personnel and military families. Programs listed include military legal aid offices, legal aid and pro bono organizations, mediation and information services for lawyers, and military-specific programs, where applicable. Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is the state`s leading provider of civil legal aid and advocacy services. Our mission is to ensure that the most vulnerable among us – low-income families, the elderly, victims of domestic violence, people with disabilities – have an equal chance to obtain justice, in the courtroom and in their communities. Legal aid receives grants so that we can provide free assistance. We do not charge a fee for our services, but if we take over your case, you may have to pay some legal fees or other related expenses.
To receive help from lawyers and legal aid staff, you usually have to meet certain eligibility criteria. In general, you must be considered a low-income OR a victim of domestic violence to be eligible for assistance from our civil legal aid program.
