The Green Dot has not only made me a young leader, it`s also where I met my co-founder three years ago. If you`re at the beginning of your career or feel like you haven`t found the company that can take your career to the next level, this article is for you. I don`t know where to start when it comes to opportunities. Deloitte is the only place where you can create opportunities and shape your own career at will. During my 5 years at Deloitte, I had the opportunity to publish a scientific paper as a speaker at the Actuarial Society of South Africa`s ERM conference and the Deloitte EMEA Quant Conference in Oslo, Norway. I`ve boarded over 100 flights (I`d never been to an airport before joining Deloitte), traveled to four different countries around the world for work, had the opportunity to become a part-time lecturer at Stellenbosch University, and Deloitte even gave me the green light to appear in the first season of Shark Tank SA. However, the biggest opportunity for me came in 2016 when Deloitte FSA gave me the opportunity to set up a Deloitte FSA department in Cape Town. I was only 26 years old at the time, but when such opportunities arise, there is no room for fear and I took them with both hands. The next 18 months were the craziest time of my life and I will always be grateful to the ASL partners who gave me this opportunity, especially Jonathan Sykes for all the support and mentorship that forced me to become the leader I am today.
It took a lot of work, long hours, and extreme dedication to make everything work, but the personal growth I experienced during that time made it truly memorable. First, some general information. Interestingly, Deloitte is actually a network of companies spanning different countries and regions, rather than a large company. You can even find cross-ownership within Deloitte. For example, the British company owns or owns the companies in Switzerland, the Middle East, India, China, Russia and Africa. Deloitte is a member of the Big 4 – Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC), Ernst & Young and KPMG. All the giants have offices all over the world and recruit in large numbers from university campuses and MBA gateways. Deloitte has been named to the 2021 Vault Accounting 50 list. We are ranked #2 – we are holding steady for the sixth year.
To compile the list, Vault surveyed accounting professionals on topics important to job seekers, such as culture, prestige, job satisfaction, compensation, and work-life integration. Deloitte earned top marks (100%) in the Human Rights Campaign`s (HRC) 2021 Corporate Equality Index for the 15th consecutive year, making it a “Best Workplace for LGBTQ Equality.” HRC`s criteria for achieving a perfect score include a rigorous assessment of an organization`s policies and practices, which fall under four central pillars: protection from discrimination in the workplace, fair benefits for LGBTQ+ professionals and their families, support for an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility. Deloitte has once again been ranked as one of the “most attractive workplaces” in the US, India and globally, according to Universum, a global employer branding company. The rankings show how attractive an employer is among students and provide information about a company`s position compared to other ideal employers in the recruitment market. Deloitte has been named one of America`s 50 Happiest Companies for 2020 by CareerBliss. Now in its 10th year, the annual list recognizes top companies across the country for their happy global work culture and positive team environment. Factors to consider include company culture, leadership, overall work atmosphere, employee relationship, and CEO ranking.
