That said, it`s possible that an MTS in software engineering will make more money than an STD in a less specialized role. Compared to a software developer, it wouldn`t be surprising if multiple software engineers work under the direction of a single MTS (again, this varies greatly from company to company). In a company where MTS positions are higher than software engineering positions, you can expect MTS to make more money. They often assign code writing to junior engineers or other positions specifically assigned to that role. Many software development companies promote software engineers to MTS positions. I see that a lot now, I think I`m referring to software engineers and SDET. When companies use this term, what do they mean by it? Software engineers also work with hardware developers to find the best way to connect the software to the hardware it runs on.
