James speaks in more detail about the law of liberty in chapter 2 of his letter, and it is painfully obvious to those who have no bias against the law of YHWH that it is the Torah of YHWH that he describes. Although it may rarely, if ever, be asserted that political independence or economic freedom alone brings complete freedom, it is not uncommon for free choice to be seen as synonymous with freedom of the soul. And it is true that God`s right to choose one`s course of action is an indispensable condition for this freedom. Without it, we can hardly enjoy any freedom – political, economic or personal. It is one of our greatest legacies. For this, we are deeply indebted to Heavenly Father, our founding fathers, and our pioneers. God gave it to man in the Garden of Eden. (See Moses 7:32.) Under the inspiration of the Lord, the founding fathers enshrined a guarantee of this in the country`s constitution. And the pioneers, guided by the inspiration of heaven, gave everything to immortalize them. Certainly, we must always be vigilant in its defense and ready, if necessary, to give our lives for its preservation.
It is liberating because our inner man rejoices in doing the things we “see” in God`s Word (I think this is also what John 8:31-32 is talking about). It is not automatic or inevitable that we live this way. We can choose to walk not through the inner man/spirit, but through the flesh. But as we walk in the Spirit, follow what the Lord has taught us, and set an example in His life, we walk in the freedom of what our new nature wants to do. He does not tell us to keep any law other than what He has always known as the law of YHWH or which has always been called the law. He quotes him. It conveys a very biblical and Jewish idea, just as David was the law of YHWH brings freedom to all when observed. Bondage comes when we don`t keep it. We have already seen the Messiah and Paul say it directly. Regardless of the fact that political, economic and personal freedom is lost through its abuse, freedom of choice will always endure because it is an eternal principle. However, a person`s freedom of choice is increased or diminished by the use they serve. Every bad decision you make limits the area in which you can exercise your freedom of choice.
The more bad decisions are made in the exercise of freedom of action, the more difficult it becomes for him to regain lost ground. By holding on long enough, you can reach the point of no return. He then becomes a miserable slave. By exercising his freedom of action, he has reduced the area in which he can act almost to the point of disappearing. God`s Holy Spirit gives us strength to live what we read in God`s perfect law. When we understand that we are God`s children redeemed by Jesus, we experience deliverance from the need for human gratitude. Because God satisfies all our needs, sinful desires no longer dominate us. We can then accept the freedom that God`s law brings.
However, there is no biblical justification for abandoning the moral law. Absolute freedom is not a characteristic of Christian freedom, and it is impossible to prove biblical support for such a claim. A second important facet is that verse 3 mentions that we are “enslaved,” that is, we were slaves to the elements of the world. Serfdom suggests something difficult to bear, oppression, imprisonment, denial of freedom. Note James 2:11-12: The best interpretation I have seen is essentially to resist some kind of antinomianism. After reading the freedom of the law so explicitly expressed in Paul`s letters, some intellectuals of the Sadducean type may have had a vain vanity that they would be judged according to the law of liberty (read the Gospel) and enter into this judgment on the basis of faith, without having works. to test the faith they claim comfortably while violently hurting the poor by favoring the rich. I say “Sadducean type” because the Pharisee type would obviously never imagine that someone would do anything, since he was only interested in exhibiting works. God wants the law to be “the law of liberty” (James 1:25; 2:12). When a person looks inside and obeys, he is freed from guilt, shame, feelings of worthlessness, self-pity, abandonment and loneliness. In short, we can attain joy and happiness only if we keep the law with the spirit and attitude willed by God.
Any other application of the law or breaking the law results in negative effects that exclude joy and happiness. For he [God], who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not kill.” Now, if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. Speak and act like those who are judged according to the law of liberty. The context in the Romans is Christian freedom, which makes other believers stumble. That is, in this example, if you exercise your “freedom” to eat unclean flesh (sacrificed to idols), some may find this sinful freedom. In other words, even if your conscience is clear, the consciousness of the person looking at you is polluted. What is “the law of Christ” or “the law of liberty” Just as following false alternatives limits freedom of action and leads to slavery, so the pursuit of just alternatives expands the scope of one`s free will and leads to complete freedom. Indeed, through this process, one can attain the freedom of the soul while denying political, economic and personal freedom. Many years ago, while taking a train through Cleveland, Ohio, I saw the inscription “Obedience to the law is freedom” on a building. With the correct interpretation of the word law, we have in this inscription an ultimate statement of truth. By inserting three words, it will read as follows: “Obedience to the law of Christ is freedom.” (See D&C 88:21.) It is not only a statement about the perfect law of freedom, but also a statement about the path to perfect freedom.
Psalm 119:44 So I will keep your law constant forever and ever. 45 And I will walk freely; for I am looking for your period. The freedom thus attained, that is, through obedience to the law of Christ, is the freedom of the soul, the highest form of freedom. And the most glorious thing about it is that it is accessible to all of us, regardless of what the people around us or even the nations are doing. All we have to do is learn and obey the law of Christ. Learning and obeying it is the primary goal of every soul`s earthly life. Simple dictionary searches for “law of liberty” give me no clue as to the meaning, so maybe it`s idiomatic. Part of me thinks this refers to the fact that James readers have the freedom in Christ to overcome even sin, to show bias to their brethren, and God will judge how they use it. Perhaps it means the law of freedom to use their freedom lawfully – with love? So the law of liberty is the same as the royal law? In today`s ever-growing secular society, people eagerly embrace freedom, defining it as “absolute freedom” and insisting that they have the right to live as they see fit. There are no constraints because their “self-defined” right to freedom justifies everything they do.
